A little about her

I work in Operations Management for a nutritional supplement company. Basically, I keep all the moving parts greased, metaphorically and in some cases, quite literally. I love what I do, as it allows me to assess processes, pick them apart, and make them better. I LIVE for problem solving. 

About two years ago, I realized that my penchant for “fixing things” had made me a bit risk averse. If nothing gets broken, there is nothing to fix, amirite? I avoided anything outside of my comfort zone- as a way to avoid failure, feeling stupid, or even hurting myself. What a boring way to live! This realization led me to actively trying out new things- I learned to ski, to ride a horse, to shoot a gun, and started studying a new language. To round out my feeling of general “badassery”, I joined Fitbliss in August of 2018.

 

What brought her to Team Fitbliss

For months I had seen my friend Paris posting Instagram videos of her lifting incredible amounts of weight. I was so impressed with how strong she was, and I decided I wanted that for myself. I hoped it would be something I could stick to, and best case scenario, I’d lose some weight. What I gained was far beyond that, I fell in love with my body and all that it could do. I learned that challenging myself day after day was fun and was just the adrenaline rush this formerly risk averse gal needed. 

 

Her favorite lift

Depending on when you ask me, my answer will change. Right now, I am in the Ladies Lift Power classes, and I’m loving max squat day.

There is something about feeling that “heaviness” on your back, and walking it out so easily. It makes me feel like I can carry the weight of the world on my shoulders.

If you’re local, you should consider trying out the Ladies Lift classes! There is nothing better than the live support and camaraderie from your coaches and the other athletes. Classes are always a highlight of my week.

 

 

 

What she has accomplished since joining our team

My self confidence has skyrocketed! Prior to joining Fitbliss, I always had such anxiety going to my commercial gym. I’d stick to the eliptical out of fear of looking stupid. Now I go to that same commercial gym and help my boyfriend improve his deadlift form. Also, getting a gold medal at my first powerlifting competition was pretty great too.

 

Her favorite macro-friendly food

I make a killer macro friendly chili! Lots of protein, low fat, and keeps me full forever.

 

 

Someone who inspires her

My boss/CEO of our company, Melyn, is a constant source of inspiration. She is beautiful, brilliant, hardworking, kind, and has the type of people skills that make everyone she meets feel like the center of the universe. She’s the ultimate feminist icon, she proves a woman can truly do whatever she wants in this world. She has degrees in accounting, economics, statistics, and finance. She’s worked as a model, a stock broker, a mink rancher, a truck driver, CEO, and even as a gravedigger. I’m lucky to have her as a friend and mentor, and was so grateful to have her cheering me on at my first powerlifting meet last month.

 

A struggle along the way

Trusting my coach! Having lost weight cutting out carbs in the past, I thought I knew better than Lynndsey when it came to my body. I continued to eat less than 20g of carbs a day, and I felt fatigued during my workouts, hungry ALL the time, and I was gaining weight. She never pushed me to bring carbs back into my diet, but helped me understand flexible eating and how it could benefit me. Now I’m eating a much more balanced diet, and I’m seeing results! Energy up, fat loss, inches down, muscle gained!

 

Biggest takeaway from working with Team Fitbliss

Definitely flexible eating! It was a major mind shift to stop demonizing not only carbs, but all food. There is no such thing as bad food, but like all things, there definitely is too much of a good thing. My relationship with food is much healthier, and I can allow myself to enjoy my favorite treats while still progressing towards my goals. 

 

Upcoming goals

I’m currently training for my next powerlifting meet in LA in January. I’ll be going with a large group of Fitbliss girls and I’m so excited! This will be my second competition and I’m hoping go into it much more prepared this time. I’d like to see significant PR’s in all 3 lifts.
