Woman of the Week

A little about her

I work in hotel management. My family owns a motel in Capitol Reef National Park and I help with online marketing. My husband also owns his own MAC TOOLS franchise and I help him when he asks me to. I have five kids and I like to do anything active! I enjoy traveling, riding horses, watching football and super cross, playing pickle ball, hiking, boating, taking the razor to the sand dunes, shopping and just spending time with my family.

What brought her to Team Fitbliss

I wanted to take on contest prep and see if it was something that I could do. I’ve always wanted to prep but wanted to ensure that it could be done in a healthy way!

Her favorite lift

I love doing anything back related. I think the incline bench lat pull down is probably my favorite. I love how it feels to do lifts that I don’t see many other people do because I almost always have people ask me about them after. Then I can tell them about my fitbliss app and all the benefits of working with women who teach me new things.

Someone who inspires her

Kerryne Henich. She was in an abusive marriage, just like me and had some unhealthy behaviors and relationships with food. She used contest prep to overcome her demons and has an amazing story.

Also Ashley Kaltwasser. She has an amazing work ethic and is the bikini competitor who has won the most-which says something about her.

Last, but not least, Chantel Hall. She is an amazing coach and athlete and it inspires me when I see how much dedication and effort she puts into being both a coach and an athlete. She has the whole package!

What she has accomplished since joining our team

I have been able to actually put in work and see results. In the past I always would work out. I spent hours at the gym and ran around in circles, never fully seeing the payoff but still liking the chase. I’ve found there is a difference between training and training with an educated coach behind you. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Being able to confide in someone when you struggle or ask for help when you need it is so beneficial. It also helps keep me accountable.

Her favorite macro-friendly food

I love rice cakes and peanut butter. I’m not really able to have peanut butter right now at this point in my prep, so I mostly look forward to Oikos triple zero yogurt. I always put it in the freezer and let it get a little hard so it tastes like ice cream. Pineapple is my favorite flavor.

A struggle along the way

I was in an abusive marriage for 10 years and I always felt like I didn’t have the strength to change anything. I got lost in the world of drugs to help me cope with feeling like I wasn’t good enough. I gave up on fighting for myself and luckily my family and support system helped me get out. After leaving my kid’s dad, I never did drugs again, but I struggled with alcoholism and it took me a long time to realize my worth. I started working out to help me quit drinking and I’ve never looked back. As a recovering addict (8 years clean from drugs, almost 5 from alcohol) it’s important to me that I continue to show myself that I have the strength to do anything that I put my mind to. It’s important to me that I believe in myself and that I remember my worth.

Biggest takeaway from working with Team Fitbliss

I have learned so much about food and different things that my body can or can’t handle. Digestion and gut health can be so confusing but I have learned so much in that area from my coach. The diet is the most important part of prep and I feel like I have learned so much about what is good/bad for me.

Upcoming goals

l hope to reach my goal weight and compete in October. For me that would really be an exciting thing. I also want to continue doing things in a healthy way and not ever jump to extremes to reach a goal. I have my whole life to compete and I’m happy with taking it slow and steady if that is what is required. Developing long term healthy habits has always been my number one priority in all of this. I know I can maintain the fitness part and I’ve enjoyed the many challenges that have come up along the way.

A last note

I’m so grateful for the opportunity that I have to train and one day compete. It had been a dream of mine for so long. I have known that I wanted to be part of a team that builds me up and supports me and I’ve found that and more through Team Fitbliss.
